Isaiah 43:1-7 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.     O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.     I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters,     I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty,     you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression,     you will not be burned up;     the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God,     the Holy One of Israel,

WONDER

When we consider all God has done for us, we should feel an overwhelming sense of awe as we kneel before the Lord in His sanctuary. Nature surrounds us with countless signs of God's wonderful power. His unlimited power and unspeakable majesty leave us breathless in His presence. How blessed we are that God cares for us! Psalm 68:34-35 Tell everyone about God's power His majesty shines down on Israel; His strength is mighty in the heavens. God is awesome in His sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power & strength to  His people. Praise be to God!

AFFECTIONS

Proverbs 4:23-27 "Above all else, guard your heart, For it affects everything you do. Avoid all perverse talk; Stay far from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; then stick to the path and stay safe. Do not get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil". Wise and powerful words written by King Solomon. These are the very words we have shared with our children and others, and yet it is a wonderful reminder to us! AFFECTIONS Our heart, our feelings of love & desire will dictate to a great extent how we live because we almost always find time to do what we enjoy. Solomon tells us to guard our heart above all else, making sure we concentrate on those desires that will keep us on the right path. Make sure your affections lead you in the right direction. Put boundaries on your desires & set good standards for yourself that will please God. Keep your eyes fixed on Chri

FRIEND

Image
Proverbs 27:6 "Wounds from a friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. " Please take a moment to consider this proverb. What is it saying? Who would prefer a friend's wounds to an enemy's kisses? The answer is: anyone who considers the source. A friend who has your best interests at heart may have to give you unpleasant advice at times, but you know it is for your own good. An enemy, by contrast, may whisper sweet words & happily send you on your way to ruin. We tend to hear what we want to hear, even if its an enemy who will say it. A friend's advice, no matter how painful, is better & more profitable!

FRUIT

Image
Isaiah 5:1-4 My beloved has a vineyard On a rich & fertile hill. He plowed the land, cleared its stones And planted it with choice vines. In the middle He built a watchtower And carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then He waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, But the grapes that grew were wild & sour. Now, you people of Jerusalem & Judah, You have heard the case; you be the judges. What more could I have done To cultivate a rich harvest? Why did My vineyard give me wild grapes When I expected sweet ones? The lesson of the song of the Vineyard is that God's chosen nation was to bear fruit - to carry out His work, to uphold justice. It did bear fruit, but the fruit was bad.  This passage uses wordplay: the Hebrew words for justice and bloodshed sound very much alike, as do those for righteousness  & oppression. Jesus said, "The way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced" ( Matthew 7:20 ). Hav

STAND FIRM

Revelation 2:2 “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance.   I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. Over a long period of time, the church in Ephesus had steadfastly refused to tolerate sin among its members. This was not easy in a city noted for immoral sexual practices associated with the worship of the goddess Artemis. We also are living in times of widespread sin and sexual immorality. It is popular to be open-minded toward many types of sin, calling them personal choices or alternative lifestyles. But, when the body of believers begins to tolerate sin in the church, it lowers the standards and compromises the church's witness.  Remember that God's approval is infinitely more important than the world's. We are to love the sinner, not the sin.

BASICS

Paying Attention to Scripture 2 Peter 1:12-15 "Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.   And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone." Just as coaches constantly review the basics with their teams and good athletes execute the fundamentals, we must not neglect the basics of our faith. You and I as athletes in this race, need to constantly practice and remind ourselves of the fundamentals of our faith and how we came to believe. Don't allow yourself to become bored or impatient with messages on the basics of the Christian life. Rather, let us adopt the attitude of an athlete who continues to practice and refine the basics while learning more advanced skills.
