A Parable
LUKE 15:13-24
“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything.

“When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home
even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of
hunger! I will go home to my father and say,
“Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me
on as a hired servant.”’
“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long
way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to
his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have
sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called
your son.’
“But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest
robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for
his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening.
We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now
returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.
This parable has both an earthly and a heavenly meaning. It
was used by Jesus to show us the heart of God by using a father’s heart for his
son in this story. As parents, our hearts are bound to our children both in
good times & tough times. Parents hurt when their children hurt, they care
about them and they only want the very best for them.
Too many times our children lose their way and may not be
all that they can be, while others flourish in whatever they set their minds to
do.
This story is a reminder to all that no matter what
the situation may be right now for that child, spouse or loved one, continue to stand in the gap for them
with your prayers and take to heart this parable of promise.
Verses 17-20
“When he finally came to his
senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough
to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father
Don’t grow weary in praying for them; allow yourself to be
their lifeline through your continual prayers no matter how long it takes. God
hears the cries of your heart and is faithful to answer your prayers. Just ask!
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the
same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with
the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the
Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I
will do it! A Little Deeper
In the Bible various names of God were
used for to describe whatever the circumstances were at that moment.
Let’s look at Genesis 16:11-13 for an example. You may know
the wonderful story of Hagar when she found herself in a place of despair and
she cries out to God for help.
And the angel also said,
“You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael
(which means ‘God hears’), for the Lord has
heard your cry of distress. This son of yours will be a wild man, as
untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone
will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his
relatives.”
Thereafter,
Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord,
who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me” She
also said, “Have I truly seen the One who sees me?”
Here the Hebrew name for the Lord is
El
Roi which means “The God who sees" Now that is worth jumping and
shouting about! Our God sees and knows every single situation!
So with that let’s take a look at
another Wonderful name of God, which we can use in praying for our loved ones -
Jehovah Nissi. You will find this in Exodus 17:15-16. Let’s take a
look;
Moses built
an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”). He said, “They have raised their fist against the Lord’s throne, so now the Lord will be at war with Amalek generation after
generation.”
What joy that brings to us who are praying to see
changes in our loved ones! Wow, God Himself will be our Banner and will fight for us, all because we dare
to pray!
So let us begin to use the Mighty and Powerful names of God
to shake and tear down strongholds in the lives of our loved ones, and we shall
witness the power of God.
All 4 the glory of God…..
