What Is The Holy Spirit

“Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.”    Psalm 51:11
So often I hear someone talking about how they cannot overcome this or that and I ask why not? And I wonder if they have ever heard of the power of God dwelling inside of them. The Spirit of the Living God that will teach them all things, gives strength, comfort, understanding, wisdom, victory and so much more.
Let’s listen to this precious melody    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHuTFknAFTM
I would like to ask these questions, but do not think of it as silly, rather chew on it for a moment.
·        What is the Holy Spirit?
·        Do you have the Holy Spirit?
·        What must I do to receive the Holy Spirit?
·        Is it active in your life?
Together let’s find answers for these questions from the Bible.
What is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the power of God living in you. It is yours just like salvation is yours! The Spirit of God is your Teacher of all things that God wants to reveal to you.

1 Corinthians 2:10-12

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God no man knows, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Heart Question
1.   Do you have the Holy Spirit?
If not, you can invite Jesus Christ into your heart right now by saying a simple prayer of faith.
Ask Him to come into your life. Tell Him that you need Him and desire for Him to come live in your heart.
Guess what, He will and you will begin to see and know the wonderful things that God has for you.
What must I do to receive the Holy Spirit?
1.     One must be born of the spirit (or born again). By saying a simple prayer of faith, you can become a child of God. This question was asked of Jesus and he replied.
 John 3:3-5
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
2.     And one must be baptized by the Spirit.
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Do you have the spirit of God active in your life?
Too many times, as a believer of Jesus Christ, we have no power to overcome the flesh, and we lack the victory over things that causes us to stumble. We cry out for deliverance, but we have no power or victory. Why?
If necessary, examine yourself, and honestly ask, "Am I living as a carnal christian"? This is one who is ruled by their own desires and flesh. Not wanting to submit to the Spirit of God.

Romans 8:5-8   Controlled the Spirit

Those who are dominated by the sinful (carnal) nature think about sinful (carnal) things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
Heart Question
1.     Have you had the experience of the Holy Spirit conviction of sin causing you to repent and continue to live for God?  If not, why?
2.     Are you experiencing the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit in victory over sin and the flesh? If not, ask yourself why not?
It makes all the difference in the world when God is leading you, teaching you and fighting the battle for you. You cannot fight in your own strength! You will get discouraged, frustrated and eventually give up. Only by the Spirit of God can spiritual battles and circumstances become victorious.
Let me share a nugget with you. It is beneficial for us to continually ask God for a refreshing down pour of His Holy Spirit upon you. You need to be renewed, strengthen, filled up to overflowing with His glorious Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God in your life will produce Joy, Victory, Boldness, Strength and the Desire to continue to live for God.

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
When you allow the Holy Spirit to freely move in your life, you are allowing God to mold you into what He desires you to be. Many wonderful things can happen in the lives of others when you allow God to use you as His instrument. God is well pleased with a heart of obedience. You will see and taste so many changes in your life, such as the fruit of the Spirit;
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
The Holy Spirit is given to be with you, to live in you and to be upon your life.
Heart Question
Are you walking in the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit?

Let Us Pray
Father, help me to examine the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. Cause me to understand and to see where I am and where I desire to be. May I experience the fullness of your Spirit in my life that convicts me sin, that provides me with power to overcome my flesh. I desire to be your witness testifying of Your mighty works in my life, both at work and home. Lord, and even to the uttermost places on earth!

Therefore, if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit
