Listen and know the Lord your God

Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.
                        Psalm 147:1-5
Let me encourage you to challenge yourself this week to meditate on the meaning and importance of these characteristics of God’s name, then allow yourself to listen as God begins to speak to you. We were challenged to do this last week by a guest speaker and as I began to be still and wait on God, I was so blessed by His Word and His Presence as He spoke to me.
God always intended to be in communication and sweet fellowship with His children and enjoys talking to us. He can use nature and various ways to communicate, but of course, His Word, the Holy Bible does always speak to those who seek Him as they read and meditate on the Scriptures. So with that thought, let us look at three (3) more wonderful names related to God and His amazing character.

EL OHIM  (el-lo-hemme)  The word El means “god or deity.”  In Hebrew it means “God” with the reference or identity as the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. Let’s look at the bible at Genesis 1:1 as it reads
“In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth”.
If you will recall, our last study on God’s name was El Elyon, which means God (the person) and Elyon referring to Supreme or Most High. Today’s name study, El Ohim is referring to God (the person) and identified as Creator of all in the heavens and on earth.
A Little Deeper

Let’s read Genesis 1:1-5

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”

And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

How remarkable to understand how the earth was a mass of nothing, without form and empty. Then we learn that it was God who was

hovering (moving) over this mass of waters and called into existence the light that was to separate the darkness upon this mass. And in His ultimate wisdom, he calls the light “day” and the dark, “night.”

 Heart Question

1.      Knowing that our earth was an empty and formless body of waters that still exists today, does this help you to see how good and faithful God is to His creation?
  Isaiah 43:1 `
Now this is what the Lord says. He created you, people of Jacob; He formed you, people of Israel.
He says, “Don’t be afraid, because I have saved you. I have called you by name, and you are mine.
2   Do you think you can trust the God who created everything and knows you intimately by name?
3.     How does this scripture speak to your heart?
     Isaiah 43:4
     Because you are precious to me, because I give you honor and love you,
