A Worldly Christian

As I’m learning about Lot’s character, I must be honest and say that it has been an eye-opener!
I learned how under Abraham’s umbrella, Lot was blessed because God blesses Abraham, whom He calls “a friend”.

Due to the division between their herds men, Abraham decided that it would be best for Lot and him to separate. Abraham though he was the oldest, gave Lot 1st choice to choose which side of the land he wanted.

Without asking God what he should do, (like me at times), Lot looked up and scoped the land. It was towards Sodom that he saw the green pasture for his cattle and decided that he and his family would go in that direction.  How many times have you made decisions about what would be best for you and the family, without considering God?

As the story goes, we see the woes that will fall on Lot because of his reckless decision. The city and its people are a perverted bunch. Lot’s once tender heart has now been hardened by the wickedness of Sodom. His two daughters marry men from this city and his wife will lose her life because she would not let go of the world.

Unlike, what Issac did when he was looking for a wife. Issac instructed his servant to go to the land where his mother was from to find him a bride. Issac knew that he wanted a woman like him, with the same values and upbringing. And he did not want a bride from any of the nations that were around him.
Issac also encouraged his servant and reminded him that God would show him what to do. Think of this for a minute…. This was his servant with whom he shared the goodness of God and how much he could trust Him.
(Wow, note to self):
“I need to be likeminded and bold like that!

God’s amazing love & mercy is always towards His people. So, God sends two of His angels to Sodom so that they would report back on the condition of Sodom.  The angels would report back about the filth and wickedness of this place.

Reminder to Reader: Lot was still in this pig pen and the stench did not bother him!

At night the men of the town came to Lot’s home and demanded that he send out the two men (not realizing that they were angels). They said they “wanted to know them," and I’m pretty sure that these men didn’t want to sit with the angels to hear about God, right? Their hearts were already cold and wicked from their homosexuality perversion and the filth all around them, and their intent was to rape the angels.

How exciting this study has been for me, in just 2 studies of Lot’s character!
How sad it is when a child of God wants to walk in his own understanding rather than to check in with God. How foolish and selfish this is! This poor decision and its consequences will also affect the family and continue to the next generation.

Let’s learn from Lot’s mistakes. We know that we can trust God. It’s a blessing to have a gracious God on our side to lean on, who will always give you His best, right?

It’s not hard to obey and live 4 God, it’s a decision that you must carefully consider. Think seriously about it, because it will bless or curse your soul, your life, your character, your family and the generations to come.
